A few months ago we already wrote that Japan Display Inc (JDI) presented a nearly completely transparent display. Then the novelty was only demonstrated to the public, without telling anything about the technical characteristics. And only in the framework of the Summer Conference Society for Information Display 2017 (SID 2017), which was held in Los Angeles, the Japanese disclosed the specifications of the most transparent display at the moment.
Recall that the transparency coefficient of the device is 80%, which far exceeds all other existing samples and is 50% higher than the previous development of the company JDI. As expected, the basis of the transparent display is a new type of liquid crystal matrix with a unique structure. Unlike traditional displays, where the backlight is made from the back of the device, the matrix of the new transparent display is highlighted on the side. In this case, the surface of special liquid crystals also reflects light in the desired direction due to a certain spatial orientation relative to each other
The dispersion of light by means of liquid crystals made it possible to get rid of the polarization plate. "Under the knife" went and a light filter. Instead, it uses the technology of a sequential color field (Color Field Sequential, CFS), the essence of which is that the liquid crystals in the right order are illuminated by the light of blue, red and green LEDs, forming a color similar to all known RGB technology. To realize this idea, JDI specialists had to develop a new type of liquid crystals, providing an extremely fast reaction, capable of switching from a transparent to a scattering state at a very high speed. The application of all the above innovations allowed not only to create the most transparent display to date, but also to make it the thinnest among all available analogs.
