The head of Tesla Ilon Mask told about the company's plans during the conference devoted to the results of the first quarter of 2017. He noted that the new crossover will be produced on a new platform that will not only simplify the design of the car, but also significantly reduce the cost of production.
Previously, Tesla planned to produce Model Y similar to the Model 3 platform, but later it was decided to abandon this idea, instead reworking the design of the machine. In the production of crossover, engineers plan to abandon the usual way of supplying electronics, simultaneously reducing the number of wiring and simplifying the process of assembling machines. Virtually no details about the crossover has not yet been reported, it is known only that the cars are planning to supply the doors opening up, just like Model X.
Mask reported that for the production of Model Y in Tesla plan to equip a new automated assembly line that will significantly increase production and produce up to a million cars a year. So far, Tesla has more pressing problems: first we need to put the production of Model 3 on the flow and fully meet the demand of customers for the novelty.
